Erasmus School of Philosophy (ESPhil) has been selected as one of the winners of the national sustainability challenge for vocational, applied sciences, and academic students, receiving a 鈧6,250 grant to realize its 鈥淕reen Philosophical Caf茅鈥 initiative.
The Green Philosophical Caf茅 is a student-led initiative that brings together philosophy and sustainability. Students from various EUR programs 鈥 including Philosophy undergraduates, the Societal Transitions Master, and members of the Erasmus Sustainability Hub 鈥 will collaborate to bridge structural gaps and foster sustainability engagement. Through monthly 鈥淧hilosophy and Sustainability Lab鈥 workshops, students will gain skills in ethical reasoning, systems thinking, and conceptual analysis, applying them to real-world sustainability projects, such as thesis and graduation assignments.
The initiative, launched by students from the Erasmus School of Philosophy and the Erasmus Sustainability Hub, creates a dedicated physical and interdisciplinary space for collaboration, reflection, and action on sustainability. The grant will fund workshops, coordination efforts, and the transformation of an existing student hub into a collaborative caf茅 setting.
With this grant, EUR actively contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in areas like climate action, biodiversity, and circular economy. The Green Philosophical Caf茅 empowers students to co-create a more sustainable future 鈥 grounded in critical thinking and social responsibility.
The grant has been awarded to members of the Sustainability Dialogues Team: Laura Garc铆a-Portela, Katharina Bauer, Constanze Binder, and Anna Abad Kolotouchknina. The implementation of the programme will be led by Sander Tuns.
