Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to a faculty event featuring a lecture and panel discussion on a central theme in contemporary ontology.

Title: Existential Ontology and the Pluralism of Modes of Existence
Speaker: Christian Frigerio
Date: Wednesday, 30 April
Time: 16:00鈥18:00
Location: Glasbak (J5-62/64)

Description:
The debate between defenders of the univocity of being and those advocating a plurality of modes of existence has been pivotal in both continental and analytic ontology for several decades. This talk introduces 鈥渆xistential ontology鈥 as a discipline that addresses being qua being from a formal standpoint, while placing the diversity of modes of existence at the heart of ontological inquiry. It aims to shed new light on the distinctions between essence and existence, as well as between modalities and modes of existence.

Bio:
Christian Frigerio holds a PhD in philosophy from the Universit脿 degli Studi di Milano Statale and is currently affiliated for two months as a visiting fellow with the Human Conditions research group. His work focuses on contemporary ontology, metaphysics, and the philosophy of science. He is the author of a book on the James鈥揃radley debate, published by Mimesis Edizioni, and is currently completing a second book on the philosophy of Bruno Latour.

Programme:

  • 16:00鈥16:45 Lecture by Christian Frigerio
  • 16:45鈥17:30 Panel discussion with F.A. Muller, Tim de Mey, and Sjoerd van Tuinen
